Time For Games That Really Matter
September 23, 2008
It's time for district football which means now it gets real -- real intense, real meaningful. Now, I'm not saying that the first three weeks didn't matter. But the wins and losses mean a lot more once district play starts.
You don't get to the gold ball just because you go undefeated in non-district play. It's what you do in your district that will get you to the high school football promised land.
Teams take different approaches during the non-district portion of their schedules. Some teams play the toughest opponents they can get their hands on and end up with losses while some teams play a lighter schedule and enter district play with a great record. But, once district play starts, there's no getting around who deserves to be on top.
So look for this Friday night to be the start of the shakeup or shakedown however you want to look at it. Teams like Bixby who have lost to two potential state champion teams, will have a chance to turn their record around in district play.
So if your team had a great non-district season, be excited about the future. If they didn't do so hot, then be optomistic because the games that matter most are right around the corner.
