Douglass Stuns Defending Champ Glenpool
Friday, November 13, 2009
Last week, Glenpool's 23-game win streak came to an end. Friday night, the Warriors' playoff run did, too.
The Douglass Trojans stunned the crowd gathered in Glenpool Friday night, shutting out the defending 4A champions 14-to-0.
Douglass (8-3) took the lead for good late in the first quarter when Anthony Smith connected with Kevin Forbes on a 35-yard touchdown pass. The extra point was unsuccessful, leaving the Trojans ahead 6-0.
Meanwhile, Douglass' defense stifled Glenpool all night. Only twice did the Warriors get into the red zone. Both times they came away with nothing to show for it.
The best chance came in the third quarter when they reached the four yard line. But, a fourth down pass fell incomplete to end the drive.
Douglass responded, taking the ensuing possession 96 yards and cashing it in on a five-yard run by Smith. A two-point conversion made it 14-0 just seven seconds into the fourth quarter.
The Trojans will play the Wagoner Bulldogs next week in the 4A quarterfinals. Wagoner upset Jay 35-0 Friday night to advance.
The season ends in disappointment for Glenpool at 9-and-2.
