Cascia Hall Blanks Berryhill For 3A Title
Friday, December 04, 2009

The Cascia Hall Commandos forced five Berryhill turnovers, including one returned for a score in winning their third straight state championship, 21-0 Friday night at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater.

Cascia (13-0) got on the board in the second quarter when Garrett Waller scooped up a fumble and rumbled three yards to paydirt.

Berryhill had a chance to get on the scoreboard just before halftime, but Joe Alston's 28-yard field goal attempt bounced off the upright.

In the third quarter, Cascia Hall's first drive chewed up half the third quarter clock, but netted nothing, giving Berryhill new hope. But, that hope was quickly dashed when Mikey Sutton picked off a screen pass at the 35 yard line.

A couple of plays later, Commando quarterback Steven Rouse found A.Z. Moyer with a 35-yard touchdown pass and a 14-0 lead with four and a half minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Excetral Caldwell capped the scoring on the first play of the fourth quarter, scoring on a one-yard run for a 21-0 advantage.

The shutout was Cascia Hall's fourth this season and 12th during the team's current 41-game win streak. The Commandos haven't lost since falling to Henryetta in the second round of the Class 2A playoffs on November 18, 2006.

The streak is the second longest in Oklahoma 11-man history and could be broken early next season. Ada currently holds the record of 42 straight wins from 1993 to 1996.
