Union Tops Jenks For 6A Crown
Next year, Jeremy Smith will return to Boone Pickens Stadium as a freshman for the Cowboys. But, it's going to be hard to top what he did as a senior at Union Friday night, leading the Redskins to a 34-20 win over Jenks for the Class 6A title.Char(13)

Smith rushed for nearly two hundred yards and three touchdowns in the first half as the Redskins jumped out to a 20-3 lead.Char(13)

But, just as in previous battles between these two juggernauts, Jenks responded. On the first play of the ensuing drive, Tramaine Thompson took the snap out of the wildcat formation and rumbled 73 yards to the seven yard line. Teammate Colton Dost scored on the next play to cut the lead to ten.Char(13)

Jenks would add a late field goal from Cody Mumma and trail 20-13 at halftime.Char(13)

The Trojans would complete the comeback in the third quarter, scoring on a punt return by Thompson to knot the score at 20-20. But just as quickly, Union returned to the end zone on a 40-yard touchdown pass from Chase Boyce to Thomas Roberson. Roberson caught two passes for 64 yards on the drive.Char(13)

Jenks had several more opportunities, but could never capitalize on them. Meanwhile, Union added an insurance touchdown on a 44-yard touchdown pass from Boyce to Anthony Foster.Char(13)

The Redskins had two other scoring chances inside the five yard line, but turned the ball over on downs on one attempt and missed a short field goal on the other.Char(13)

Smith finished the night with 245 yards rushing and three touchdowns. Boyce completed 8-of-16 for 190 yards and a pair of scores. For Jenks, Thompson led the way, rushing for 140 yards.Char(13)

For Union, it's the team's first title since 2005. Jenks was looking for the three-peat.
