Steve Largent played receiver for the Putnam City High School, starting for the Pirates in 1970 and 1971 seasons before going on to a Hall of Fame career in the NFL.
As a senior, Largent scored twice in the team's season opener and helped lead the Pirates to an 8-1-1 record.
After high school, Largent initially signed a letter of intent with Oklahoma State, but later chose the University of Tulsa.
As a member of the TU freshman team (called the Gales), in a game against the University of Oklahoma freshmen (known as the Boomers), Largent caught two touchdown passes, including an 80-yarder in the fourth quarter that pulled the Gales within 33-30.
At Tulsa, Largent led the nation in touchdown catches in both 1974 and 1975, snaring 14 scoring passes each season. His career numbers at Tulsa were 136 catches for 2,385 yards and 32 touchdowns. The 32 touchdown receptions is still a TU record.
Largent was selected in the fourth round of the 1976 NFL Draft by the Houston Oilers, but was traded to the Seattle Seahawks and spent his entire 14-year career there, establishing six NFL receiving records. He still ranks in the top 20 in the NFL in career receiving yards (19th) and touchdowns (10th).
He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995.
