Toy Ledbetter was a former Durant, Oklahoma A&M and Philadelphia Eagles running back. He was born on October 30, 1927 in Morris, Oklahoma.
Ledbetter was a standout fullback at Durant, earning All-District and honorable mention All-State honors as a senior in 1944. He also played basketball for the Lions.
At Oklahoma A&M, Ledbetter was a member of Jim Lookabaugh's teams from 1945 to 1948, playing both offense and defense for the Cowboys.
In 1949, Ledbetter played professionally with the Patterson (NJ) Panthers of the American Professional Football Association, running for 489 yards and eight touchdowns in nine games played, earning All-AFL recognition.
Ledbetter went undrafted in 1950, but after a tryout with the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles, he earned a spot on the roster and rushed for 320 yards and a touchdown, and caught four passes for 81 yards and two scores.
Ledbetter missed the 1951 and 1952 seasons after being inducted into the Army. He returned in 1953 and scored eight touchdowns over the next three seasons, finishing his career with 729 yards rushing, 498 yards receiving and 11 total touchdowns.
Ledbetter passed away in 1995 at the age of 67 and is laid to rest in Roselawn Cemetery in Pueblo, Colorado.
