Former Edison Eagles, Georgia Bulldogs and NFL star and wrestling superstar Bill Goldberg was born on December 27, 1966 in Tulsa.
Goldberg attended Edison Preparatory Academy. A three-year starter at defensive tackle, he made 237 tackles, including 136 during his senior season when he was named first-team All-State by the Tulsa World and the Oklahoma Coaches Association. He also had four fumble recoveries and intercepted a pass during his senior year.
He was heavily recruited coming out of high school and chose the University of Georgia over several other offers. He was a four-year letterwinner with the Bulldogs and was team captain and earned first-team All-Southeastern Conference honors as a senior in 1989. He finished his career at Georgia with 348 total tackles, including 121 as a senior. To this day he is still ninth on the Bulldogs' all-time list for tackles.
In the 1990 NFL Draft, Goldberg was selected by the Los Angeles Rams. He would go on to play with the World League's Sacramento Surge before returning to the NFL to play with the Atlanta Falcons in 1992, playing in 14 games in three seasons.
After an injury ended his football career, he trained in power lifting and mixed martial arts as part of his rehabilitation. Pro wrestlers Lex Luger and Sting encouraged him to give wrestling a try and he turned it into a lucrative career in both World Championship Wrestling and World Wrestling Entertainment, earning the heavyweight championship belt for both.
Goldberg has also appeared in several movies, including the 2005 remake of "The Longest Yard".
