Alonzo Mayes is a former Douglass High School, Oklahoma State and NFL tight end.

Born June 4, 1975 in Oklahoma City, Mayes was a consensus All-State selection and was named All-American by Max Emfinger as a senior at Douglass High School in 1992 after making 33 catches for 891 yards and ten touchdowns.

In three seasons as a starter, Mayes helped the Trojans go 31-8.

He was also a standout basketball player, earning third team All-City as a senior.

He signed with Oklahoma State and as a freshman, caught one pass that went for a 15-yard touchdown pass in the Cowboys' 23-6 loss to Kansas State in the 1994 season finale.

As a sophomore, Mayes earned second-team All-Big Eight after making 32 catches for 421 yards and four touchdowns. He then was named first-team All-Big 12 as both a junior and senior and was a consensus first team All-American as a senior, catching 29 passes for 424 yards and seven touchdowns despite missing five games with a separated shoulder.

While at OSU, Mayes also played basketball for the Pokes as a junior, averaging three points and two rebounds per game while shooting 50 percent from the field.

In 1998, Mayes was selected by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round of the NFL Draft and played three seasons with the Bears. He started all 16 games as a rookie, catching 21 passes for 217 yards. Nine of his 21 catches went for first downs.

He caught his first NFL touchdown on November 25, 1999 in a 21-17 loss to the Detroit Lions. In three seasons with the Bears, he hauled in 33 passes for 339 yards and one touchdown.

He later played with the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz of the Arena League.

After his playing career, Mayes began coaching, including at his alma mater Douglass and later at Mount Saint Mary.
