Alex Loyd is a former Stigler, Oklahoma A&M and professional receiver.

Loyd was born August 7, 1927 in Stigler and was an All-Conference selection at quarterback as a senior, helping the Panthers go through the regular season unbeaten and win the N.O.A.A. conference, outscoring their conference opponents 227-32.

He was also an accomplished basketball player and considered playing collegiately before attending Oklahoma A&M for football, where as a freshman, he helped the Cowboys go undefeated and win the Sugar Bowl.

In college, Loyd moved to tight end and also played defense. In a win over Texas Tech, Loyd scooped up a fumble and later lateraled to Cecil Hankins, the combined yardage being a 96 yard touchdown, which was the longest in team history for more than 35 years.

He was also freshman class president.

Loyd earned All-Missouri Valley Conference as a senior in 1949 when he led the team with 47 catches and 657 yards. That season, he had 16 catches for 178 yards in a loss to Kansas. The 16 catches remain the most in a single game in OSU history to this day.

In 1950, Loyd was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the NFL Draft. As a rookie, he appeared in 12 games, including two starts, leading the team with 32 catches and 402 yards. But sadly, a shoulder injury suffered in the preseason in 1951 ended his career.

He moved to Dallas later that year to work with his brother in a sporting goods agency and later was a sporting goods store owner.

Loyd passed away in 1976 at the age of 48 after a battle with cancer. His teammates from the undefeated 1945 Oklahoma A&M, including Hall of Famer Bob Fenimore, were pallbearers at his funeral.
