Former Weatherford Star Downs Suffers Season Ending Injury

Ethan Downs' season with the Kansas City Chiefs is already over.

Downs, a 6'4", 270-pound defensive end, was signed to the Chiefs' practice squad last August and promoted to the active roster in December.

On Tuesday, Downs tore his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during a training camp practice. He has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

Downs was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent in 2025 but was among the Jags' final roster cuts leading up to the season.

At Weatherford, he was a running back and defensive end for the Eagles, recording 203 tackles, 38 for losses, 16 sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions in four seasons. 

He also rushed for 1,194 yards and 15 touchdowns and also caught 56 passes for 982 yards and 14 touchdowns in his career.

He went on to play at the University of Oklahoma, where he was a two-time second-team All-Big 12 selection in 2022 and 2023.
